Rioting between Arabs and Jews, which, as we announced in our later editions on Saturday morning, broke out in Jerusalem on Friday night, has since been renewed in the capital and its suburbs, and has spread to Hebron and other places. The number of Jews killed in Jerusalem is now given as 21 and in Hebron as 45.
A British immigration officer has been killed in Jerusalem, and two Oxford undergraduates seriously wounded. It is reported that the casualties at Hebron include American students.
British troops have been rushed out from Egypt to help in restoring order, a body of 50 by air and a battalion by train, and a battleship and a cruiser have been dispatched. The troops mentioned have already arrived, and a second battalion is on the way from Malta.
These two battalions ╤ three companies of the South Wales Borderers and a company of the Green Howards from Egypt, ╤ and a battalion of the South Staffordshire Regiment from Malta are officially stated to be all the troops that have been or are being sent to Palestine.
